About Me

Aloha, I'm Stephanie and I created this site as way to share my GIS experience, knowledge and skills with others. My hope is that this online lab will provide an opportunity for GIS professionals and students to share and learn from each other.  I hope you find this site useful. If you have any questions or comments, please drop me a line via email: stephanie@opengislab.com  or use the Contact Me button below.

My Background:

I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, but went to college in the Boston area, and have called Hawaii home for the past 20 years ( the longest I’ve ever lived in one place). In 2021, I relocated to Portland, OR.

I have been working in the GIS field for 20+ years providing GIS services that include: web-based mapping applications, spatial analyses and modeling, training, and needs-assessment for various projects ranging from ecological/conservation to renewable energy and housing finance/mortgage studies in the research/academic, government, and corporate environments. For several years I ran the joint Botany Department and the Pacific Cooperatives Studies Unit (PCSU) GIS research lab at University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH) as well as worked as the GIS coordinator/data manager at the Manoa MAGIS Geospatial Center at UH Hamilton Library. Until recently (April 2022) I was the GIS Lead/Manager at G70 (formerly known as Group 70 International) providing in-house GIS support for ~110 architects, planners, interior designers, civil engineers and asset managers, as well as manage GIS-based projects throughout the company.
